New Recycling Technology

Creating high-grade ‘green’ C2CA concrete

In January 2011, the Delft University of Technology (the Netherlands) in collaboration with 13 international partners started a European-funded project that aims to develop advanced technologies for turning demolition concrete into clean aggregates and cement. The main objective is to develop an environmentally sound and cost-effective process technology that produces high-grade environmentally friendly concrete.

Cement and concrete production and the techniques for recycling end-of-life buildings have developed over the years to become industries with a strong economy of scale and attractively low process costs. The concept of the C2CA project is to take advantage of this present technological infrastructure and add a number of key innovative technologies to make the recycled concrete products suitable as input for the cement and mortar industries.
